Frontier doesn't fly to South Bend every day, so double check the flight schedule. Our inbound flight doesn't arrive until 11:30 PM; so, the best idea is to land, get your rental car, and go to a hotel. Here's the website for the South Bend Airport: http://flysbn.com/ . If you're going to Chicago, you don't need to rent a car, but you'll have to wait until morning to catch the South Shore Train/NICTD. Here's the website for the train: http://www.nictd.com/index.html and http://flysbn.com/south_shore_train.php . The first train to Chicago leaves the airport at 6:32 AM and arrives in Chicago around 8:00 AM. Currently, the fare is $11.75 one-way all the way to Chicago. If you want to take the train from Chicago to South Bend to fly home, you'll need to spend the night. If you're visiting South Bend, the top two attractions are the University of Notre Dame (Websites: http://www.nd.edu/ , http://nd.edu/about/ , and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Notre_Dame ) and the Studebaker National Museum (Website:http://www.studebakermuseum.org/ ) which is a tribute to the now-defunct Studebaker automobile with exhibits of over 75 vehicles that span the 114-year history of the company. If you want to eat in an exceptional place, try the Tippecanoe Place Restaurant (Website: http://www.tippe.com/ ). It's located in a historic neighborhood in the former Studebaker Mansion. If you want beer, visit the Four Horseman Tasting Room (Website: http://fourhorsemenbrewco.com/Default.asp ). Downtown South Bend has many dining options (Website: http://www.downtownsouthbend.com/dining.php ) like the Cafe Navarre (Website: http://cafenavarre.co/ ). South Bend is a good place to fly into to get you somewhere else like Chicago, Indianapolis, Toledo, or Detroit; and it's a nice city to visit for a Notre Dame Football or Basketball Game. Hotels near the airport are, for the most part, inexpensive.
Enjoy!
